About Volusia Naturalist

The thing is – as you may know, but I had not discovered then – adventure is just a state of mind, and a very pleasant one, and no harm to anybody, and a great asset if you use it right.

My name is Peter May.  I’m a biologist, birder, photographer, educator, and a lifelong student of all aspects of the natural world.  I grew up in northern Virginia, but have lived in Florida since 1979, where if I’m lucky, I learn something new about natural history every day.  I’m continually amazed by how much there is to learn.

When I’m not out looking for birds or other critters, I teach biology at Stetson University in DeLand. I’ve lived in Volusia County since 1988.

I’ll post about significant sightings, field trip reports, wildlife photography, and in general, about any bit of Florida natural history that interests  me.

Thanks for joining me on my adventure of discovery.
